Where Did October Go?

I don’t know about you, but October has flown by fast! The month just started, and now seven days is all that remains. Fast or slow, it was 100% full of meaningful moments I now get to cherish. My wife and I spent the earlier part of the month traveling back and forth from different fabric stores for her homemade crafts, and I became a Small Group Leader for 8th Grade Confirmation students. I also returned to my volunteer work as a Pastoral Visitor through a local hospital (this brought many beautiful moments) and had 5 million healthcare continuing ed classes to attend (that may be an overestimate).

I want to wager most of us occasionally find ourselves in seasons of busyness and rapidly changing schedules. The world simply sweeps us off our feet and plops us down somewhere into the next year. Yet, all it takes is a moment to breathe, reflect, and look back to notice the beautiful God in the details. Those fabric finding trips put energy into my marriage, and the 8th-grade boys certainly put some fire into my soul. And those patients I visited remind me that God has made beautiful stories out of all of us, not only a select few.

I first want to thank all of you who take the time to read my Weekly Devotionals. Secondly, I now encourage you to take the time this coming November and jot down moments or events as they happen throughout the month. It doesn’t have to be everything, but if you feel moved to jot it down, do so. It was for this reason alone that I could unwind, search through my fast-paced month, and realize that moments of calm, blessing, and encouragement did indeed occur amongst the chaos.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for this month! And thank you for the wisdom that allowed me to see the benefit of jotting down the moments in time I now see had meaningful impacts on my life. Allow all of us to go into November and take a couple of time outs and cherish the time we have, whether slow or fast. Amen.
