5 Prayers for Emergency Responders

Prayer is a time to abide in Christ and to offer up praise, thanksgiving, and requests. Here is a list of 5 prayers I have found helpful in some way during my time as a Christian Responder

St. Francis Peace Prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;  courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen.

Offering of St. Ignatius Loyola

Take, O Lord, and receive my entire liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my whole will. All that I am and all that I possess You have given to me. I surrender it all to You to be disposed of according to Your will. Give me only Your love and Your grace; with these, I will be rich enough and will desire nothing more. Amen.

The Prayer of Good Courage

O God, You have called Your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown.

Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that Your hand is leading usand Your love supporting us, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Your kingdom come, your will be done, on Earth at it is in Heaven.

Give us this day or daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.

And lead us not into the time of trial, but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom and the power and the glory are yours forever.

Amen.
